How we would fit it into your day

Distances are approximate from central Patten. Island Falls and Mount Chase are separate destinations. Baxter State Park and Katahdin Woods and Waters are different parks with different entrances and rules; the national monument’s mailing address in Patten is not a trailhead. Remote roads, gates and conditions need advance checks. No Katahdin summit, water crossing or guided outing is automatically scheduled. Confirm the exact visit date and current conditions; no booking is made by this guide.

Before you go

Check with the lodge for conditions and permitted uses. Avoid the winter Lodge Loop and frozen-lake crossing; it is not a summer walking route.
